We’ve just turned ONE! Yep, June marked 12 months of Thankyou in New Zealand.
Whether you’ve been with us since the start, or you just bought your first Thankyou product, we’re so grateful that you’ve been a part of our first year. Together, we’ve been able to achieve some pretty amazing things in 12 months and we wanted to take the time to share some of the highlights with you.
At Thankyou, we exist to empower humanity to choose a world without poverty, and our launch in New Zealand was about getting us closer to that goal by enabling people to choose life-changing, beautifully-made personal care products that make a real and lasting impact.
We launched with a tour around the country, where we met with inspiring and passionate supporters, which kicked off at Town Tonic cafe in Christchurch. From there, we spent one week on the road meeting with inspiring, passionate supporters from different cities. The call to action was simple: choose Thankyou products at your local supermarket, then tell two people using ‘what’s in your hand’, and encourage them to do the same. It was a word-of-mouth, grassroots launch that required everyone playing their part for it to work. Amazingly, we had 3000 of you sign up to our ‘launch team’ and get on board to spread the word!

Asking people to help launch a brand in a new market isn’t a conventional approach, and it means you’re not in full control of the outcome. Let’s be real, there were moments of nervousness. What if no one came along to our events? What if no one used ‘what’s in their hands’ to ‘tell two’? What if the launch was an epic fail?
But we’ve learnt two things on our journey. 1. You have to be willing to take a risk to do something that challenges the status quo. 2. Sometimes the best ‘what if’ question to ask is: ‘what if it works?’. Our answer to that was that New Zealand could go on to show the rest of the world the power of a small group of people who are determined to create change together.
And (to everyone’s relief!) the good news is what we managed to achieve together was EPIC. Here are just some of the highlights:
- We reached the 13 week sales hurdle rates set out by our retail partners
- We’re now the second-fastest growing hand wash* and body wash** in supermarkets
- We are available in over 300 stores in the country, including New World, Pak N Save, Countdown, Chemist Warehouse and selected Pharmacy stores
- 150 cafes and restaurants all over the country are now using our product, helping to build awareness (p.s. your business can too!)
- We’ve been mentioned in the media over 60 times, including The Project, The Sunday Star Times, New Zealand Herald, Stuff.co.nz and Radio NZ
ALL of this was made possible by our incredible community. Here’s a few of your stories of how you’ve backed Thankyou this past year.

This journey to end global poverty is going to take all of us. As Mother Teresa once said, “I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; together we can do great things.”
We’re one year in, but the best part is that this is just the beginning. Let’s keep changing the world together in year two!
The Thankyou Team
